Headline: Amritsar MC’s Bold Move: Women at the Forefront of Water Safety
The Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) is set to launch a pioneering initiative, employing women to collect water samples for a city-wide door-to-door testing program. This initiative, a key component of the Amrut Mitra initiative under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, aims to significantly improve water quality monitoring.
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar announced the project on April 20, 2025. He highlighted its dual benefits: ensuring accurate water quality data and empowering women through meaningful employment.
The program will involve trained women visiting households to collect samples, ensuring wider reach and community participation. This approach is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of water quality surveillance.
This initiative not only addresses public health concerns but also serves as a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment in Amritsar. The success of this model could inspire similar programs across the nation, improving both water safety and gender equality.
