Yamuna’s Woes Deepen: Rs 85 Crore Sewage Plant Lies Idle, Minister Alleges Corruption

Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the previous AAP government, accusing it of massive mismanagement and corruption in the Timarpur Oxidation Pond project. The project, costing a staggering Rs 85 crore, was intended to treat sewage before it reached the Yamuna river.

During a surprise inspection, Minister Verma discovered the plant remains completely non-functional. This despite the significant public funds allocated to its construction.

The Minister highlighted the shocking state of affairs, pointing to a blatant disregard for public funds and environmental concerns. He promised a thorough investigation into the matter.

Verma’s accusations raise serious questions about the accountability and transparency of the previous government’s infrastructure projects. The non-functional plant adds to Delhi’s already considerable pollution challenges, further impacting the Yamuna’s fragile ecosystem. The investigation’s findings will be crucial in determining the next steps and ensuring such lapses are not repeated.
