Cyber Fraudsters Loot Retired Colonel of ₹36 Lakh

A shocking case of digital fraud has come to light in Chandigarh, leaving a 91-year-old retired Colonel devastated. Col Harmohinder Singh Puri (retd), a resident of Sector 34-C, lost a staggering ₹36 lakh to cybercriminals last November.

The fraudsters, cleverly impersonating officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch, executed a sophisticated digital arrest scam. They manipulated the Colonel into transferring his life savings.

An FIR has finally been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector 17, after a considerable delay. The police are now investigating the matter and attempting to trace the perpetrators.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing vulnerability of senior citizens to online fraud. The need for heightened digital literacy and robust cyber security measures for the elderly is now more critical than ever. Authorities must intensify awareness campaigns to protect this vulnerable population from such devastating financial losses.
