Delhi Battles Heatwave: Gupta Unveils Ambitious Action Plan
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025 on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Delhi Secretariat. This comprehensive plan, developed in conjunction with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), aims to mitigate the impact of extreme heat on the city.
The plan incorporates a wide spectrum of measures. These range from promoting cool roof technology to enhance building insulation, to public awareness campaigns aimed at educating citizens about heatstroke prevention.
Specific interventions detailed in the plan include the establishment of more heatwave shelters across the city and the strengthening of the early warning system for heatwaves. The focus is on protecting vulnerable populations, including the elderly and the homeless.
The timely launch of this plan is crucial given Delhi’s vulnerability to increasingly intense heatwaves. The success of this initiative will depend on effective implementation and robust inter-agency coordination. Its effectiveness will be a key indicator of Delhi’s preparedness for future climate challenges.
