Mass Shuffle in Punjab Revenue Department: 221 Officials Transferred
The Punjab government on Monday effected a major reshuffle within its revenue department, transferring 55 tehsildars and 166 naib tehsildars. This follows a similar large-scale transfer in March, when 58 tehsildars and 177 naib tehsildars were moved after participating in a strike.
The transfers, totaling 221 officials, are seen as a strong response to allegations of corruption and harassment within the department. Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian reiterated the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards such malpractices.
Minister Mundian stated that the government will not tolerate any form of harassment of citizens seeking services in government offices. The reshuffle aims to improve efficiency and accountability within the crucial revenue administration.
This decisive action by the state government sends a clear message ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The focus on efficient and transparent governance is likely to resonate with voters concerned about corruption and bureaucratic hurdles. The impact of these transfers on public service delivery remains to be seen.
