President’s Medal Winner Gets Life for Lover’s Murder

A former Maharashtra policeman, Abhay Kurundkar, a recipient of the President’s Police Medal, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday. The Panvel Additional Sessions Court found him guilty of murdering Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bidre-Gore in 2016.

The court, presided over by Judge KG Paldewar, delivered the verdict last month. Kurundkar was convicted under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The case highlighted a tragic turn of events in a relationship gone wrong, sending shockwaves through the state’s police force. The murder involved a decorated officer, raising serious questions about accountability within the system.

This verdict underscores the need for stringent measures against crimes committed even by those in positions of authority. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding the law, irrespective of an individual’s past achievements or standing.
