Rahul urges Congress-ruled states to implement Rohith Vemula Act

Rahul Gandhi Pushes Congress States to Enact Rohith Vemula Act

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to the Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, urging the swift implementation of the Rohith Vemula Act. The letter, dated April 21, 2025, stresses the urgent need to honour Vemula’s memory by enacting this crucial legislation.

Gandhi highlighted the importance of the Act in upholding social justice and protecting marginalised communities. He emphasized the symbolic and practical significance of the law in ensuring inclusivity within educational institutions.

The Act, named after the Dalit scholar who died by suicide in 2016, aims to prevent caste-based discrimination and violence in educational campuses. Its implementation across Congress-ruled states would be a significant step towards fulfilling this goal.

This move by Gandhi comes amidst rising concerns about caste discrimination in India’s educational landscape. The timely implementation of the Rohith Vemula Act in these states will be closely watched as a potential model for other states and a barometer of Congress’s commitment to social justice.
