Shah Orders Speedy Chargesheets, Video Conferencing for Chhattisgarh Cases
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday issued a stern directive to the Chhattisgarh government. He insisted on fixing accountability for timely chargesheet filings. DSP-level officers must ensure chargesheets are submitted within 60 to 90 days.
This directive aims to expedite the justice delivery system in the state. The new criminal laws, Shah emphasized, allow for the entire process – from evidence recording to trials – to be conducted via video conferencing.
This technological shift is expected to significantly reduce manpower requirements and potentially alleviate the burden on the state’s judicial system. The move is also intended to improve efficiency and reduce case backlogs.
The Home Minister’s intervention underscores the Centre’s focus on streamlining criminal justice procedures. The successful implementation of this directive will have significant implications for improving law and order and public confidence in the justice system in Chhattisgarh. This will be closely watched for its impact on other states grappling with similar challenges.
