Wheat Glut Cripples Haryana Mandis: New Crop Arrival Looms

Haryana’s grain markets are overflowing with wheat, a situation threatening to disrupt the upcoming harvest. Nearly 46% of the procured wheat remains unlifted, according to the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.

This sluggish pace of procurement poses a significant challenge. The lack of storage space raises serious concerns about accommodating the new wheat crop expected to arrive soon.

The delay in lifting the existing stock is creating a logistical nightmare for the state. Farmers are anxiously awaiting payment, and the overall efficiency of the procurement process is severely hampered.

The state government is under pressure to expedite the lifting process. Failure to do so could lead to spoilage of the wheat, impacting farmers’ income and national food security. The situation underscores the need for improved infrastructure and efficient supply chain management within the state’s agricultural sector.
