Kapurthala Tragedy: ASI’s Son, Italian Resident, Dies of Suspected Overdose
A pall of grief descended upon Kapurthala on Monday, July 7, 2025, following the death of 29-year-old Amandeep Singh. Amandeep, an Italian resident, was found dead at his home, succumbing to what police suspect was a drug overdose.
Amandeep’s father, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Punjab Police, discovered his son’s body. He had reportedly gone out for beer earlier in the evening.
Preliminary investigations suggest Amandeep relapsed into drug use after his recent wedding. He had previously undergone rehabilitation treatment for substance abuse.
Police recovered several capsules from the scene, further strengthening suspicions of an overdose. A formal post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The tragic incident highlights the devastating impact of drug addiction, even amongst those seemingly leading successful lives abroad. The family’s loss underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and robust support systems to combat this pervasive societal challenge.
