Punjab Governor Orders Weekly Public Hearings: A New Era of Transparency?
Punjab’s Administrator has announced mandatory public hearings, thrice weekly, to enhance government accountability and accessibility. These hearings will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 11 am to 12 pm.
Wednesdays are specifically designated for public grievances and interactions. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will jointly conduct hearings every Friday at the DC’s office.
No other official meetings are permitted during these hearing times, underscoring the administration’s commitment to citizen engagement. This initiative aims to address public concerns directly and promptly.
This move comes at a time when citizen participation in governance is increasingly emphasized. Its success will depend on effective implementation and the government’s responsiveness to the issues raised by the public. The impact on improving public services and fostering trust in the administration remains to be seen.
