SC Rejects Odisha MBBS Student’s Plea, Directs High Court
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, dismissed a petition filed by an MBBS student from Odisha challenging his expulsion from medical college. The student had claimed lack of proper notice and due process before his termination.
He sought reinstatement and the implementation of uniform disciplinary procedures across all medical colleges in the state.
The apex court, however, declined to intervene directly, advising the student to pursue his case in the Odisha High Court. The court deemed the High Court a more appropriate forum to address these specific concerns.
This decision highlights the ongoing debate surrounding student rights and disciplinary processes within India’s medical education system. The outcome underscores the need for clear and consistent guidelines to ensure fairness and transparency in such matters, impacting the future of aspiring doctors across the nation.
