Haryana Power Sector: Digital Surge Cuts Losses, Boosts Efficiency
Haryana’s electricity distribution sector has witnessed a remarkable transformation, driven by a significant shift towards digital payments. As of January 2025, a staggering 49.15 lakh consumers are utilising online payment methods.
This digital embrace has yielded impressive results. Over 60% of revenue is now collected online, streamlining billing processes and enhancing efficiency.
The impact extends beyond revenue collection. Aggregate technical and commercial (ATC) losses, a persistent challenge for power distribution companies, have plummeted. These losses have reduced dramatically from 29.31% in 2012-13 to a significantly lower 10.52% by January 2025.
This success story holds valuable lessons for other states grappling with similar challenges in power distribution. Haryana’s experience underscores the potential of digital technologies to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and enhance service delivery in the vital power sector. The state’s model offers a clear path for nationwide reform and improved electricity access for millions.
