Delhi University to Launch Groundbreaking Sikh History Course
The University of Delhi will introduce a dedicated course on Sikh history for the first time, starting this academic year. This significant step aims to address historical gaps and highlight the contributions of Sikh martyrs and resistance fighters.
The course, commencing in July 2025, will cover a crucial period from 1500 to 1765. It will delve into the lives of prominent Sikh figures and trace the evolution of Sikhism during this formative era.
Delhi University Vice-Chancellor, in a statement, emphasized the importance of rectifying historical omissions and celebrating the nation’s unsung heroes. The curriculum will explore the struggles and sacrifices that shaped the Sikh identity and its place in India’s rich tapestry.
This initiative is a timely recognition of the need for inclusive and comprehensive historical narratives in higher education. The course promises to enrich the understanding of Sikh history and its profound impact on India’s cultural and political landscape, fostering greater national unity and appreciation for diverse heritage.
