Delhi-NCR Shakes: Jhajjar Earthquake Sends Tremors Across Region

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Jhajjar, Haryana, on the morning of July 10, 2025, causing tremors that were felt across the Delhi-NCR region. The quake’s epicentre was located just 3 km northeast of Jhajjar and approximately 51 km west of Delhi.

The seismic activity was strong enough to be felt in several surrounding areas. Residents of Rohtak, Gurugram, Panipat, Hisar, and even Meerut reported feeling the tremors.

Initial reports suggest no major damage or casualties. However, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity. Experts are urging authorities to review building codes and preparedness measures in the light of this event.

The earthquake underscores the need for robust infrastructure and disaster preparedness plans across the Delhi-NCR region, particularly given its rapid urban expansion. Such preparedness is crucial to minimise damage and protect lives in the event of future seismic events.
