Army Bolsters Air Defence: 10 New Radars to Guard Against Drone Threats
The Indian Army is set to significantly enhance its air defence capabilities with the acquisition of 10 state-of-the-art low-level lightweight radar (LLLWR) systems. This strategic move comes in response to the growing threat posed by low-flying aerial vehicles, including drones.
These advanced radars boast impressive tracking capabilities, able to simultaneously monitor over 100 targets and relay critical information to command posts up to 20 kilometres away. The system’s ability to designate up to 20 tracks at a time ensures swift and effective response to potential threats.
Crucially, the LLLWR systems will seamlessly integrate with the existing Akashteer network, bolstering the Army’s overall air surveillance infrastructure. Their effectiveness is particularly vital in challenging terrains where traditional detection methods may prove less reliable.
