Manimajra Water Woes: Shah-Inaugurated Project Under Human Rights Scanner
The Punjab State and Chandigarh Human Rights Commission has launched a probe into the much-hyped 24X7 water supply project in Manimajra. Allegations of corruption and mismanagement have triggered the investigation.
The Commission has summoned top officials to account for the project’s failings. The MC Chief Engineer, Vigilance Department officials, and the concerned Executive Engineer have been directed to submit detailed reports.
They must also appear for a hearing scheduled for July 31, 2025. This follows widespread complaints about muddy water supply despite the project’s hefty price tag.
The Rs 75 crore project, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is now facing intense scrutiny. The investigation raises serious questions about the project’s implementation and allocation of funds.
This development underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability in major public works projects. The outcome of this investigation will have significant implications for future infrastructure development in the region and beyond.
