MCD House in Uproar: AAP-BJP Clash over Contractual Workers’ Regularisation
The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) House was adjourned on Thursday, July 10, 2025, amidst a tumultuous showdown between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the regularisation of 12,000 contractual employees.
The AAP accused the BJP of deliberately delaying the process, alleging an anti-Dalit bias given the significant number of Dalit workers among the contractual staff. They termed the BJP’s inaction as unacceptable.
The BJP, however, countered these accusations, blaming the AAP for disrupting the House proceedings and obstructing the discussion on crucial matters.
Amidst the chaos, the Mayor highlighted the MCD’s achievements in desilting and business reforms. These announcements, however, were largely overshadowed by the intense political sparring.
The adjournment leaves the fate of thousands of contractual workers hanging in the balance, highlighting the deep-seated political divisions that continue to plague the functioning of the MCD. This incident underscores the urgent need for constructive dialogue and a resolution that prioritizes the livelihoods of these employees.
