Tax Collections Surge: Govt’s Fiscal Health Gets a Boost
India’s direct tax collections have shown impressive growth, rising by 3.2 per cent year-on-year to reach Rs 6.64 lakh crore during the current fiscal year (2025-26). This is a significant increase compared to the Rs 6.44 lakh crore collected during the same period last year (2024-25).
The figures, released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on July 11, 2025, indicate a positive trend in government revenue. This robust growth reflects the improving economic climate and the effectiveness of tax administration measures.
The substantial increase in tax collections is a welcome sign for the government’s fiscal health. This allows for increased allocation towards crucial social and infrastructure development projects. The continued upward trend will be closely monitored as an indicator of overall economic performance.
