FASTag Fiasco: NHAI’s Crackdown on Loose Tags to Clear Toll Congestion
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a crackdown on improperly affixed FASTags, aiming to alleviate persistent congestion at toll plazas across the nation. The move comes as the authority prepares to roll out new initiatives like annual passes and multi-lane free-flow tolling systems.
Toll collection agencies have been directed to report all instances of “loose” or improperly installed FASTags. These tags, often causing delays and facilitating misuse, will be blacklisted to ensure smooth and efficient toll collection.
The NHAI’s initiative is crucial for the success of upcoming projects. Annual passes and multi-lane tolling systems, designed to improve traffic flow, are highly dependent on a reliable and accurate FASTag system.
This crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to modernising the national highway system. The efficient functioning of FASTags is not merely about faster payments; it’s directly linked to reducing travel time and boosting economic activity across India.
