Shimla Road Project: Gawar Construction Halts Work After Collapse, Seeks Expansion

Following a recent building collapse on a Shimla road construction site, Gawar Construction has announced a temporary suspension of work. The incident occurred on July 11, 2025.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commissioned an independent third-party agency to conduct a thorough assessment of the affected road stretch. This agency will pinpoint structurally vulnerable areas.

Gawar Construction anticipates the agency’s report within a month. Work will resume only after receiving and implementing the report’s recommendations.

In a related development, the company has proposed acquiring additional land to ensure the project’s structural integrity. Temporary housing and compensation are being provided to the owner of the collapsed building.

This incident highlights the critical need for stringent safety protocols and comprehensive risk assessments in major infrastructure projects. The timely intervention and proposed solutions by Gawar Construction, though reactive, are a step towards ensuring future safety and responsible development in the region.
