Udaipur Files Release on Hold: High Court Stays Release Pending Govt Decision
The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the release of the controversial film “Udaipur Files”, pending a final decision from the central government. The stay order follows a challenge to the film’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clearance by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind.
Producer Amit Jani expressed his disappointment with the court’s decision. He intends to appeal the stay order in the Supreme Court.
Jani alleges that the film, having already received the CBFC’s green signal, has been unfairly blocked. He maintains the film’s content is not objectionable and the stay is unwarranted.
The High Court’s intervention throws the future of “Udaipur Files” into uncertainty. The case highlights the ongoing debate surrounding freedom of expression and censorship in India, particularly concerning sensitive socio-political issues. The Supreme Court’s decision will have significant implications for the film industry and the balance between artistic expression and public order.
