Delhi’s IIT Unveils India’s First 3T MRI Brain Research Hub
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) proudly inaugurated India’s first research-dedicated 3 Tesla (3T) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility on July 12, 2025. This cutting-edge neuroimaging centre is a significant leap forward for Indian neuroscience.
Funding for this pioneering project was provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research – Department of Health Research (ICMR-DHR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The facility will allow researchers to conduct non-invasive brain studies, opening new avenues for understanding neurological diseases and brain function. It will also play a crucial role in training the next generation of neuroscientists.
Beyond individual research, the 3T MRI facility will foster collaborations with other national and international institutions, bolstering India’s standing in global neuroscience research.
This development promises to accelerate breakthroughs in brain research, potentially leading to better diagnostics and treatments for a range of neurological disorders impacting millions of Indians. The accessibility of this advanced technology is a crucial step towards improving healthcare outcomes within the country.
