Himachal Reels Under Monsoon Fury: Landslides, Floods Claim Lives
Heavy monsoon rains have unleashed havoc across Himachal Pradesh, claiming lives and disrupting vital transportation links. A massive landslide near Kangra on July 29, 2025, completely blocked the highway connecting to Dharamsala, leaving numerous vehicles stranded and essential services disrupted.
The situation is particularly grim in Mandi district. Flash floods have tragically resulted in two deaths, with one person still missing. Significant property damage has also been reported in the affected areas.
Several major highways remain closed, including the crucial Chandigarh-Manali route. This closure is causing significant logistical challenges, impacting tourism and the movement of essential goods. Rescue and relief operations are underway.
The ongoing monsoon season poses a serious threat to the state’s infrastructure and the safety of its citizens. The government needs to urgently bolster its disaster preparedness measures to mitigate the impact of future extreme weather events and ensure the safety of its people.
