Jalandhar Hospital Tragedy: Health Minister Orders Statewide ICU Upgrade
Following the tragic incident at Jalandhar Civil Hospital, the Health Minister has issued a statewide directive to prevent similar occurrences. Civil surgeons across Punjab have been instructed to immediately implement critical upgrades to all Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
The directive mandates the installation and rigorous testing of uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems and backup generator sets in every ICU. Round-the-clock oxygen supply is also mandatory.
Furthermore, the Minister has announced mandatory training programs for medical staff in critical care and advanced life support techniques. This initiative aims to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
The directive, issued on July 29, 2025, follows concerns raised over the hospital’s preparedness in handling critical medical emergencies. The government aims to ensure that such preventable tragedies are not repeated, safeguarding the lives of patients across the state.
