AAP Govt Faces Mohali Waste Crisis: Mayor’s Scathing Attack
Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh Sidhu launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, over the mismanagement of the Samgoli waste disposal site. He highlighted critical shortcomings that, he claims, are posing serious health and environmental risks to the city.
Sidhu’s primary concern centers on the absence of an approach road to the site, despite the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) having been granted. This logistical failure, he argued, severely hampers waste disposal operations.
Further compounding the issue, the Mayor alleged that the daily volume of waste far exceeds the contractual limit, leading to overflowing landfills and unsanitary conditions. This mismanagement, he stressed, is a clear violation of environmental norms.
The delay in land acquisition for the expansion of the waste disposal facility adds another layer to the ongoing crisis, according to Sidhu. He demanded immediate government intervention to address these pressing issues.
This situation underscores the urgent need for effective urban planning and waste management strategies in Punjab’s burgeoning cities. The lack of infrastructure and alleged mismanagement at Samgoli highlight the potential consequences of neglecting crucial civic services, potentially impacting public health and the environment significantly.
