Aussie Rocket’s Crash Landing: A Success, Claims Gilmour Space

Gilmour Space Technologies’ ambitious maiden voyage ended abruptly on July 30, 2025. Their Eris rocket, Australia’s first homegrown orbital launch vehicle, crashed just 14 seconds after liftoff.

Despite the failure to achieve orbit, the company declared the launch a partial success. All engines reportedly ignited as planned.

The company emphasized the integrity of the launch infrastructure remained unaffected. This, they claim, provides valuable data for future missions.

This setback, however, underscores the inherent challenges in space exploration. The incident highlights the need for robust testing and continuous improvement in the development of indigenous space technology, a crucial aspect for nations aspiring to become spacefaring powers. India’s own ambitious space programme can learn valuable lessons from this event, particularly concerning rigorous pre-launch checks and contingency planning.
