Jalandhar Hospital Tragedy: Three Die Amidst Oxygen Crisis
Three patients tragically perished at Jalandhar Civil Hospital on July 29, 2025, due to a critical disruption in oxygen supply. A faulty compressor and a malfunctioning stabilizer were identified as the primary causes of the oxygen shortage.
The situation was further aggravated by a shortage of trained personnel capable of operating the hospital’s manual oxygen backup systems. A critical lack of technicians to address the technical failures also contributed significantly to the crisis.
This incident underscores a worrying lack of preparedness within the hospital’s infrastructure and highlights the urgent need for improved maintenance and adequately trained staff. The Punjab government must launch an immediate investigation to prevent similar tragedies in the future and ensure accountability for these preventable deaths. The incident raises serious questions about the quality of healthcare delivery in government hospitals across the state and the need for stringent oversight.
