Tewari Slams ITMS: 11-Fold Challan Spike Sparks “Extortion” Row
Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari has launched a scathing attack on the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), citing an alarming eleven-fold increase in traffic challans. He presented data obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs, highlighting the dramatic surge in fines and the number of challans issued.
Tewari described the ITMS as “extractive and extortive,” alleging that the system is being misused to generate revenue rather than improve road safety. He called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
The government, however, maintains that a robust manual re-verification process is in place to address any discrepancies. Public complaints, they claim, are also being reviewed and acted upon.
This controversy comes at a time when citizens are already burdened by rising costs of living. The escalating challans are adding to the financial strain on ordinary citizens, raising serious questions about the fairness and transparency of the ITMS. The need for a fair and accountable system is paramount, and this issue demands immediate attention from the authorities.
