Delhi Drowns: Monsoon Fury Brings City to its Knees

Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, triggering orange alerts across the city and plunging several areas into chaos. Widespread waterlogging brought traffic to a standstill and caused widespread power outages.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported significant variations in rainfall across different weather stations. Delhi Ridge bore the brunt, recording a staggering 129.8 mm of rainfall.

While the Delhi government touted recent improvements to the city’s drainage system, the reality on the ground painted a different picture. Areas like Sadar Bazar experienced severe flooding, crippling commercial activity and causing significant losses for businesses.

The deluge exposed the limitations of the city’s infrastructure, raising serious questions about its preparedness for future monsoon seasons. The disruption caused widespread inconvenience for citizens and highlighted the urgent need for more robust and effective urban planning to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events. The economic fallout from the flooding in commercial hubs like Sadar Bazar also demands immediate attention.
