Metro Delay: Tewari Slams Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Inaction
Congress leader Manish Tewari has sharply criticised the delay in the Chandigarh-Punjab-Haryana metro rail project. He highlighted the absence of a detailed project report (DPR), despite the existence of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA).
Tewari blamed bureaucratic inertia for the continued standstill. He stressed the urgent need for the project to address the region’s growing transportation needs.
The Union Government corroborated Tewari’s claim, confirming that no DPR has been officially submitted for the project. The revised report from RITES is still under review.
This delay underscores the critical need for greater inter-state cooperation and efficient project management. The lack of a DPR, even after years of planning, raises serious questions about the commitment to improving regional infrastructure and public transport. The prolonged delay impacts not only commuters but also the economic development of the tricity.
