PLA Jets Breach Taiwan’s Air Defence: Record Incursions Spark Fresh Tensions
The Ministry of National Defence (MND) in Taipei reported a significant escalation in Chinese military activity near Taiwan on Thursday, July 31, 2025. A total of 37 sorties by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) were detected.
Of these, a concerning 26 PLAAF aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). These incursions covered the northern, central, and southwestern sectors of the ADIZ.
This represents a substantial increase in PLAAF activity and a clear challenge to Taiwan’s sovereignty. The scale of the incursions is unprecedented in recent months, heightening regional tensions.
The MND statement did not specify the types of aircraft involved, but the sheer number indicates a significant deployment of military assets.
This latest provocation comes amidst heightened geopolitical uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific region. Experts warn that such actions could destabilize the delicate balance of power and potentially lead to further escalations. The incident demands immediate attention from the international community to prevent further aggressive actions by China.
