Monsoon’s Bountiful Promise: 106% Rainfall Predicted for August-September
India is bracing for a robust monsoon season, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting above-normal rainfall for August and September. The total rainfall for these two months is expected to reach 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA).
While August is projected to receive normal rainfall, September is expected to see significantly above-normal precipitation. This positive forecast comes after July witnessed rainfall 6% above normal, despite below-normal showers in the eastern and north-eastern regions.
The IMD’s announcement also highlights the launch of a new, granular block-wise rainfall monitoring system. This advanced system promises more precise and timely data, improving forecasting accuracy and aiding regional water management.
This improved forecasting, coupled with the predicted bountiful rainfall, offers a much-needed respite for farmers across the nation, particularly in regions grappling with water scarcity. The timely implementation of the new monitoring system will further enhance the preparedness and response to potential weather-related challenges. The success of the Kharif season hinges on this positive monsoon forecast and its effective management.
