Visa Overstay: Kenyan Woman Detained in McLeodganj

A 36-year-old Kenyan national, Grace Nhdia, was arrested in McLeodganj on July 31, 2025, for violating India’s visa regulations. Her passport expired in 2021, leading to charges under the Foreigners Act.

Following her arrest, Nhdia was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The local police are now conducting checks on other foreign nationals residing in the area to verify their visa status and documentation.

This incident highlights the ongoing need for stringent monitoring of foreign nationals’ visa compliance in popular tourist destinations like McLeodganj. The crackdown underscores the potential security implications of undocumented foreign residents and the importance of robust immigration procedures.
