Khaira Muzzled: Court Restrains AAP Critic from Defaming CM’s OSD
A Mohali court on July 31, 2025, issued an injunction against Sukhpal Singh Khaira, preventing him from making further defamatory statements against Rajbir Singh Ghumman, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The order follows a defamation suit filed by Ghumman, who accused Khaira of levelling baseless and damaging corruption allegations against him. Ghumman argued these claims severely tarnished his reputation.
Khaira has been directed to refrain from publishing or broadcasting any material that could further defame Ghumman. A notice has been issued, requiring his appearance in court on August 11, 2025.
This legal battle highlights the ongoing tensions between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its critics in Punjab. The case raises crucial questions about freedom of speech versus the protection of reputation, particularly in the context of political discourse. The outcome will have significant implications for future public debates and accusations against government officials.
