Manimahesh Yatra Goes Green: Plastic Ban & Deposit System in Place

The Deputy Commissioner of Chamba has declared the Manimahesh Yatra route a plastic-controlled zone, effective immediately and continuing until August 31, 2025. This initiative aims to safeguard the environment during the pilgrimage season.

A Deposit Refund System (DRS) will be implemented for QR-coded plastic items along the route. This system encourages responsible waste management among pilgrims and vendors.

Vendors operating along the Yatra route are mandated to comply with the new regulations. Failure to do so will result in strict legal action.

The move is expected to significantly reduce plastic waste generated by the large influx of pilgrims to the sacred site. Successful implementation could serve as a model for other religious sites across the country, tackling the growing challenge of environmental pollution from religious gatherings.
