Shimla Decongestion Plan: Armed Police HQ Shift to Kangra
The Himachal Pradesh Police will relocate its Armed Police and Training Headquarters from Junga, Shimla to Daroh in Kangra district. This move, announced on July 31, 2025, is a key component of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s broader plan to ease congestion in the state capital.
The Junga-based headquarters is responsible for training new recruits and conducting specialized courses. These courses cover crucial modern policing areas, including cybercrime and technological advancements.
The relocation aims to alleviate pressure on Shimla’s infrastructure and resources, a significant concern given the city’s growing population and limited space.
This strategic shift not only addresses immediate infrastructural challenges but also promises to better serve the needs of the state’s diverse regions. The new location in Kangra will allow for improved training facilities and accessibility for recruits from across Himachal Pradesh. The move is expected to be completed within the next fiscal year.
