JNU Food Row: ABVP Demands Veg Students’ Rights, Clashes with Leftists

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Friday, August 1, 2025, demanding better facilities for vegetarian students. Their key demand: separate food arrangements to prevent cross-contamination with non-vegetarian food.

ABVP members alleged that existing separate seating arrangements for vegetarian students were disrupted by left-wing student groups. They highlighted concerns about hygiene and religious sensitivities.

The protest saw heated exchanges between ABVP and opposing student factions. The situation, however, remained largely under control.

JNU Dean acknowledged the students’ concerns and assured the ABVP of prompt action to address the issue of separate meal arrangements. He promised a meeting with student representatives to find a viable solution.

This incident underscores the growing need for inclusive policies in educational institutions catering to diverse dietary needs and religious beliefs. The JNU administration’s response will be crucial in setting a precedent for other universities grappling with similar challenges.
