Haryana Faces High Court Rap: Must Pay WSSO Salaries, or Else!

The Punjab and Haryana High Court delivered a strong rebuke to the Haryana government on Friday, August 1, 2025. The court ruled that the state cannot withhold salaries of employees under the centrally sponsored Women Self Help Groups (WSSO) scheme due to delays in central funding.

The court firmly held the Haryana government accountable for ensuring timely payment of salaries to these employees. The state’s justification for delaying payments based on pending central funds was rejected.

The High Court has directed the immediate release of all outstanding arrears by August 30, 2025. Failure to comply will result in the court blocking the salaries of top state officials.

This landmark ruling highlights the critical need for states to prioritize timely disbursement of funds, especially for crucial social welfare schemes. The court’s firm stance sends a clear message to all states regarding their responsibilities in implementing centrally sponsored programmes and ensuring the welfare of beneficiaries. The impact on the lives of these women, who rely on these payments, is significant, and the court’s action underscores the importance of their livelihoods.
