General Honours Fallen Comrades: A Legacy of Sacrifice Remembered
Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, on the eve of assuming the Vice-Chief of Army Staff position, paid a poignant tribute to five soldiers who perished under his command during a 1989 Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operation in Sri Lanka. The solemn ceremony took place at the National War Memorial on August 1, 2025.
The General, himself seriously injured in the same ambush, personally honoured the memory of these brave soldiers. Their families were present to witness this deeply moving tribute.
This act underscores the profound respect and enduring commitment within the Indian Army to honouring the sacrifices of its fallen personnel. It serves as a powerful reminder of the debt owed to those who safeguard the nation’s interests, even at the ultimate cost.
