Glacier Tears: HP CM Urges Youth to Act on Climate Crisis
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended a special screening of the short film “The Last Drop” on Friday, August 1, 2025. The film powerfully depicted the alarming effects of climate change and glacial melt in the state.
The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need for collective action, particularly among the youth. He highlighted the devastating consequences of inaction for Himachal Pradesh’s fragile ecosystem.
Sukhu underscored the state government’s proactive measures to combat this crisis. A key initiative is the newly implemented Early Warning System designed to minimise the impact of future disasters.
This system aims to provide timely alerts to communities vulnerable to glacial lake outburst floods and other climate-related hazards.
The screening served as a crucial platform to raise awareness and galvanise support for environmental conservation. The state’s future, and indeed the nation’s water security, hinges on addressing this pressing challenge.
