IIT Bombay Student’s Tragic Fall: Powai Hostel Death Stirs Concerns

A pall of gloom descended upon the IIT Bombay campus following the tragic death of 22-year-old Rohit Sinha. Sinha, a fourth-year Metallurgical Sciences student hailing from Delhi, was found dead after falling from the tenth floor of his hostel in Powai around 2:30 am on August 2, 2025.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The Powai police have registered an accidental death report and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest Sinha jumped from the building, though the exact reasons behind his actions remain unclear. Police are currently examining his belongings and interacting with his friends and family to ascertain the cause.

This tragic event has raised serious concerns about the mental health support systems available to students in prestigious institutions like IIT Bombay.
