India Launches Global Capacity Building Initiative: Boosting South-South Cooperation
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the launch of the first phase of the ‘India-UN Global Capacity Building Initiative’ on August 1, 2025. This initiative, highlighted on X, aims to strengthen South-South cooperation to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Four key projects spanning nine partner nations are underway. These projects focus on crucial areas like food security, improved healthcare, vocational training, and census preparedness.
Secretary (West), Tanmaya Lal, officially inaugurated the initiative. The event was attended by several dignitaries including Heads of Missions, UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, diplomats, and officials from ITEC implementing institutes and UN agencies.
This significant step underscores India’s commitment to global development and its proactive role in fostering collaborative partnerships for achieving the SDGs. The success of these projects will have a direct impact on improving lives and livelihoods in participating nations, strengthening India’s image as a responsible global power.
