Monsoon Mayhem: Ellenabad Farmers Cry Foul, Demand Higher Crop Compensation
Torrential rains have wreaked havoc on agricultural lands in Ellenabad, Sirsa district, leaving farmers in villages like Shakkar Mandori devastated. Standing crops have suffered extensive damage, pushing many families into distress.
Independent MLA Bharat Singh Beniwal has urged the Haryana government to provide compensation of Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 per acre to affected farmers. He highlighted the urgent need for relief measures to mitigate the losses.
Adding to the pressure, JJP leader Ajay Chautala has demanded a significantly higher compensation of Rs 60,000 per acre. He sharply criticized the state government’s response, particularly its management of the Hisar-Ghaggar drain, which he claims exacerbated the flooding.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of farmers to extreme weather events and raises questions about the adequacy of existing government support mechanisms. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the extent of the government’s response and its impact on the livelihoods of affected farmers in Ellenabad.
