Himalayan Cleanup: 8.55 Tonnes of Waste Removed from Manimahesh Yatra Route
A massive clean-up operation preceding the annual Manimahesh Yatra has successfully removed 8.55 tonnes of waste from the pilgrimage route. The drive, spanning July 15 to 30, was spearheaded by the Bharmour administration.
Volunteers meticulously sorted the collected waste into 13 distinct categories. This systematic approach facilitated efficient waste management and resource recovery.
A newly established Material Recovery Facility played a crucial role in this process, enhancing the effectiveness of the initiative.
The successful clean-up reflects a growing commitment to sustainable tourism in the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. This proactive approach sets a vital precedent for managing waste generated by large-scale religious gatherings in ecologically sensitive areas. The Bharmour administration’s model offers valuable lessons for other pilgrimage sites across India facing similar environmental challenges.
