Two-Rupee Doctor, Dr. Gopal, Passes Away at 80

The nation mourns the passing of Dr. A.K.R. Gopal, affectionately known as the “two-rupee doctor,” who breathed his last at the age of 80 on August 3, 2025. His decades-long service touched countless lives.

For over five decades, Dr. Gopal tirelessly treated patients, charging a nominal fee of just two rupees. This selfless dedication earned him immense respect and admiration across the country.

Beyond the minimal consultation fee, he generously provided free medicines to those unable to afford them, further highlighting his compassionate approach to healthcare.

His clinic, a beacon of hope for the underprivileged, sadly closed its doors in May 2024 due to his deteriorating health.

Dr. Gopal’s legacy extends far beyond his modest clinic. He serves as a powerful symbol of unwavering commitment to service and embodies the spirit of selfless dedication to the nation’s most vulnerable. His life inspires us to reflect on the true meaning of compassionate healthcare in a rapidly changing India.
