Maoist IED Blast Claims Railway Worker’s Life Near Odisha-Jharkhand Border
A railway worker tragically lost his life in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near the Odisha-Jharkhand border on August 3, 2025. The incident occurred close to a railway track loop line.
Police have launched an investigation and suspect Maoist involvement. This suspicion is fuelled by the discovery of posters near the blast site, a common tactic employed by the group.
The blast, while causing damage to the railway track, did not disrupt passenger train services. Repair work is underway to restore the line to full functionality.
Odisha’s Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family of the deceased railway worker. This underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting victims of such violent acts.
This incident highlights the persistent threat posed by Maoist insurgency in the region and the need for strengthened security measures along vulnerable railway lines. The ongoing investigation will be crucial in bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of railway workers and commuters.
