Odisha Migrant Workers Perish in Andhra Quarry Collapse
Six Odisha migrant workers tragically lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries, following a granite rock collapse at a quarry in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh on August 3, 2025. Preliminary investigations by local police suggest water seepage may have weakened the rock face, leading to the devastating accident during mining operations.
The incident occurred during routine mining work at the quarry. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crack before the rock gave way. Rescue efforts were immediately launched, but sadly, six workers succumbed to their injuries.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister swiftly responded to the tragedy, ordering a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and prevent future occurrences. He also ensured immediate medical aid was provided to the injured workers.
Opposition parties expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved families and demanded stringent safety measures at all quarries across the state. The incident has once again highlighted the precarious working conditions faced by many migrant workers in India.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for stricter safety regulations and robust monitoring mechanisms within the mining industry to protect vulnerable workers. The ongoing investigation and subsequent actions will be crucial in preventing similar tragedies in the future and ensuring accountability for the loss of life.
