Monsoon Mayhem: Chandigarh & Mohali Drown in Downpour

Chandigarh and Mohali bore the brunt of a sudden downpour on August 3, 2025, with waterlogging causing significant disruptions across both cities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued prior alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the region.

The downpour measured 39.4mm in Chandigarh and a slightly higher 41mm in Mohali. Low-lying areas faced the worst of the deluge, with reports of traffic snarls and waterlogged roads.

Despite the rainfall, temperatures remained elevated, adding to the discomfort caused by the persistent high humidity. The IMD continues to monitor the weather patterns and issue regular updates.

This unexpected deluge highlights the urgent need for improved urban infrastructure to cope with increasingly erratic monsoon patterns, particularly in cities like Chandigarh and Mohali, which are witnessing rapid development. The incident underscores the vulnerability of urban planning to climate change impacts.
