Sugar Rush: India Opens EU Export Taps
India has authorised the export of 5,841 tonnes of sugar to the European Union. This allocation falls under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) scheme for the 2025-26 marketing year, commencing October 2025 and concluding September 2026.
The move is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Indian sugar exports. It offers valuable market access and strengthens support for the domestic farming community.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will oversee the management of this quota. They will be responsible for issuing the necessary export recommendations.
This strategic export initiative holds significant promise for India’s sugar industry. Securing a foothold in the EU market could lead to increased investment and improved livelihoods for farmers, impacting millions across the country.
